January 31, 2023

WHEN 70 CHIP BECAME A HOUSEHOLD TERM IN DC - In this Jan. 30, 1983, file photo, Washington legend John Riggins (44) breaks away from Miami Dolphins cornerback Don McNeal on his way to the winning touchdown in fourth-quarter of Super Bowl XVII in Pasadena, Ca. Washington turned into a run-heavy offense in the second half and that led to Riggins’ memorable run off left tackle against a tiring Miami defense. (AP Photo, File)

Washington has multiple milestone anniversaries this week: Monday marked 40 years since John Riggins made 70 Chip a household term in the Burgundy and Gold’s first Super Bowl victory and Tuesday is the 35th anniversary of Doug Williams’ historic MVP performance in Super Bowl XXII. WTOP alum and ESPN 630 host Andy Pollin joins the WTOP Sports team to reminisce about those championship runs and where those teams rank in Super Bowl history.
