Up to 40K minks unleashed in Ohio town

Police in Van Wert, Ohio, said around 25,000 to 40,000 minks were released from their cages at Lion Farms USA mink farm. Even though minks may look fury and friendly, people in the area have a far different perspective.

“The squirrel had its face chewed off and that mink was eating it,” said Zavier Buzard of Van Wert, adding that it could negatively impact the local environment. “If they survive, if they can feed themselves and stay warm with the winter upcoming, they are going to wreak havoc on populations of the small game for sure.”

Eddie Meyer, manager at Lion Farms USA mink farm, said about 80% of the minks have been or stayed in their cages. He added that they will have to kill the minks because they can be exposed to diseases when they’re outside the cage.
