WATCH: Officers receive Congressional Gold Medals for Jan. 6

Nearly two years after the bloody attack on Jan. 6, 2021, the law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol received Congressional Gold Medals on Tuesday morning.

Hundreds of officers were recognized as medals were placed in four locations — at U.S. Capitol Police headquarters, the Metropolitan Police Department, the Capitol and the Smithsonian Institution.

During the insurrection, dozens of officers were injured by rioters. Two officers died by suicide after the attack and a third officer died after being sprayed by a chemical during the riot.
