WATCH: Cicadas so thick you can see them on radar

Have you been swarmed by cicadas over the past few days? There’s an indication that they are at their peak right now across parts of the D.C. area.

NBC Washington Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer said there are so many out there right now, they are showing up on radar.

“This is the first time I can remember, and again they only come out every 17 years, but first time I can remember cicadas showing up like this on the radar.”

Kammerer says it’s not unusual for a large flock of birds to show up on radar, but it takes a lot of cicadas for them to show up.
