WATCH: Jimmy Carter’s state funeral services to take place in DC

Former President Jimmy Carter’s remains arrived Tuesday at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland before traveling to the U.S. Capitol, where he lies in state.

Funeral proceedings take place from Tuesday through Thursday.

His hearse stopped Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Navy Memorial, where his remains were transferred to a horse-drawn caisson for the rest of his trip to the U.S. Capitol. A service in the Rotunda followed.

Carter will now lie in state, while the military maintains a guard of honor. The public is invited to pay their respects as he lies in state from 6 p.m. to midnight.
