He also has twice been voted the best entertainer in DC by readers of the Washington City Paper. On Friday, August 17th WTOP will once again host the Annual Summer Blood Drive with Inova Blood Donor Services and ABC7.Come out and donate, meet WTOP staff! A sad song to sing or hear
Is when you have to say goodbye to someone such as Marvin Hamlisch. The composer of Broadway Musicals, movie themes and hit songs died this week rather suddenly at the age of 68. He leaves behind an incredible body work that earned him nearly very award possible: Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes, a Tony and for A Chorus Line the Pulitzer Prize. Below are two of our many remembrances of a very talented and very very nice man.

National Hot Dog day was Monday! According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council's 2012 report on Major League ballparks, Americans will consume 20.5 million hot dogs this season, enough to round the bases 28,489 times, and if laid end to end would stretch from the new Marlins Ballpark in Miami to Coors Field in Denver.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) continues its mission to honor, educate and heal by building the Education Center at The Wall. The Center (which will be underground) will be the place on the National Mall where the stories and sacrifices of our heroes will never be forgotten.

Storm tracking in hi-def
There is an app for that if you have an iPhone. It's the NOAA Hi-Def Radar app from GeoTerrestrial. The description on the App Store page: "Simple yet powerful app for viewing real-time animated weather radar images in vivid color on a highly responsive interactive map, with higher resolution images than any other radar app in the appstore." It is a paid app $1.99, designed for both iPhone and iPad.

"How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular" from DreamWorks was at the Verizon Center entertaining tens of thousands of youngsters and their taller companions.
