Teens racing for a cure -- on stage!
Seventh through 12th graders at South County Middle School and High School have helped raise lots of money and awareness about breast cancer for the past 7 years. It's all to support Team Heather and the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure." May 11th this year. You can hear about the talent show by clicking on the two clips below.
How do you spell success?? LLS will work!
That's the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) which has helped fund research that saves lives. The Leukemia Ball is the huge fund raiser for the LLS National Capital Chapter and it has once again been a HUGE success. That's measured in both money raised and people honored such as Tammy Darvish Vice President of DARCARS Automotive Group, and longtime volunteer. To find out more check out the two clips below.
Talent is not idle in NOVA
As proven at NOVA Idol 2013. Contestants had to be enrolled in at least one NOVA course. High school NOVA Idol contestants had be enrolled in one of the area high schools. It started out with many auditions on multiple campuses, whittled down to 65 semi finalists and ten finalist who all performed At Norther Virgina Community College, Alexandria on the Schlesinger stage. interPLAY still "Mighty Special Music Makers"
Even if that is the original name for the interPLAYcompany Band. It is a band that is made up of adults with cognitive disabilities such as Down Syndrome and other differances. Their latest concert with amateurs and professionals, high school seniors and university musicians as 'bandaides' (mentors), all performing together was totally sold out in the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center. A new and incredibly moving ballet premiered over the weekend "Colin" about a 19 year old killed in action in Iraq. It was created and choreographed by Colin's mother Amy Grant Wolfe of Manassas Ballet Theatre, the ONLY professional Ballet Company in Northern Virginia! Below you will find three clips. Finding buried treasure! or Spring! or Both!
At this weekend's Washington Home & Garden Show there are lots of opportunities ranging from finding a real taste of spring (which has sprung, at least in doors)to new ideas on what do with your current home (inside or out) and if you have any real treasures laying about.
