WASHINGTON - Check your Powerball ticket, it could be worth $144 million.

The Giant at 1535 Alabama Avenue in Southeast sold Wednesday's lone winning ticket.

The winning numbers were 1, 6, 48, 52, 56 and powerball 9.

"We're all very excited," says D.C. Lottery spokeswoman Athena Hernandez.

"This is the eleventh Powerball winner from the District."

The last time someone won the jackpot, it was November 2001.

D.C. Lottery officials do not know what day or time Wednesday's ticket was purchased. The winner has a year to claim the prize and should turn the winning ticket in to the D.C. Lottery's Claim Center in the Frank D. Reeves Building at 2000 14th Street, N.W.

The cash option for the winning ticket is worth $76.6 million.

Giant officials tell WTOP they're deciding now what to do with the $100,000 the store will get for selling the ticket.

The jackpot has been reset to $20 million.

Another winning ticket sold in the District is worth $10,000. The D.C. Lottery says it was sold at 7-Eleven at 1101 South Capitol Street, S.W.

Powerballs started in 1985 and is played in 29 states, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The record jackpot was $365 million won by eight workers at a Nebraska meatpacking plant in February 2006.
