WASHINGTON - Streets that were closed due to an 8-inch water main break may reopen in time for rush hour.

The D.C. Water and Sewage Authority is working to repair the problem that has closed 7th Street between G and H streets.

Authorities shut down the street after a bus slid sideways down the ice-covered street Wednesday.

A spokeswoman says crews expect to reopen the streets around 5:30 p.m., but the problem may take until about 10 p.m. to be fixed.

Spokeswoman LaDawne White says crews shut the water off around 2 p.m. and that 10 to 12 businesses in the area near the Verizon Center will go without water. The company is trying to identify the cause of the problem.
