FedEx employees spent September 12th giving back by preparing, packing and delivering healthy fresh meals to people with life challenging illnesses by volunteering at Food & Friends and giving the organization a substantial dollar donation.

The official announcement that NSO In Your Neighborhood 2013 will Focus on U Street, Howard University, Shaw, and Logan Circle was made at Ben's Chili Bowl. These free community engagement activities will run between January 8 and 14. The NSO's performances during this period will be free of charge, thanks to a gift from Irene Pollin.

Where shorts are big!!
Now in its ninth year, the DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenplay Competition is back with 140 short films from around the world. DC Shorts continues to be the largest shorts film festival on the East coast. The films run the gamut in genre, style and subject, but are unified by their abbreviated run times of 1 - 20 minutes.
Among them "Liberty Road" written and directed by WTOP film critic Jason Fraley. There are two more screenings of his film:
Sunday 9/9 at E Street Cinema 4PM
Thursday 9/13 at E Street Cinema 5PM
Running thru Sept. 16th the festival will be spread among three different venues in Washington, DC with screenings at the U.S. Navy Memorial, E Street Cinema in Northwest D.C., Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast D.C., and the brand new Angelika Film Center and Café Mosaic in Fairfax, Va.

America has a face
It's a spectacular multi-media face it's Wolf Trap's series:Face of America, Spirit of South Florida this Saturday night (9/8) at 8 pm on the Filene Stage including HD video on an enormous backdrop featuring dancing and scenery captured on-site in the parks, as well as live dance from renowned choreographer David Parsons and set to the music of Andrew Bird and Tiempo Libre.

But sometimes it gets in the way of a good time, though the spirit can survive by moving inside. Which is what happened to the annual National Symphony Orchestra's annual Labor Day Capitol Concert normally on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

When rain forced the NSO to move the annual outdoor Labor Day Concert at the US Capitol inside at the Kennedy Center a couple thousand people -- many under 30 -- joined them.

This Labor Day weekend offers lots of fun but how about something Free and family oriented?? The National Symphony Orchestra, led by Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke, presents its annual, free Labor Day Weekend Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday. This year the program will include music that highlights the American landscape, from Stephen Flaherty's American River Suite to the little town of Mudville in Casey at the Bat, narrated by Michael John Casey. Concluding the concert will be a number of selections from the Great American Songbook performed by composer, pianist, and singer Tony DeSare. Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 8 p.m., Free event, no tickets required. Gates open at 3 p.m., Open Rehearsal at 3:30 p.m. (No open rehearsal if concert is moved) In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Eisenhower Theater, and the doors will open at 7:30 p.m., one half-hour before the performance. Please call the NSO Summer Concert Hotline at (202) 416-8114 after 1 p.m. on Sunday to find out if the performance has been moved.
