Cloudiness has developed ahead of the cold front that is currently moving across the TN and OH Valleys. Well above average temperatures will continue this evening. Rain will develop overnight as the front gets closer. Rain will be likely at times tomorrow and temperatures will start falling during the day. As even colder air arrives Saturday morning, the rain may end as some brief snow in spots.
Clearing skies and colder temperatures will highlight the remainder of the Saturday forecast. A new area low pressure will approach our area on Sunday and Sunday night as a cold air mass will be entrenches east of the Appalachians. This means the entire area will seeing precipitation.
The best scenario at the moment…according to the most recent guidance…is for snow to begin during the mid to late morning hours then mix with and change to sleet. The majority of the precipitation will fall as sleet and freezing rain EXCEPT in those locations where ground level temperatures remain above 32 degrees. Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore and Bay front locations on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake may have predominantly rain because temperatures may remain above freezing. There is the potential for enough sleet and freezing rain to disrupt traveling and to create hazardous conditions.
