St. Patrick's Day festivities to close downtown D.C. streets

WASHINGTON - Two events Sunday, the St. Patrick's Day Parade and 8k race, will cause various D.C. street closures and parking restrictions downtown.

Street closures from the St. Patrick's Day 8k race will begin as early as 5:30 a.m. and end around noon. The race will close the following streets:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 14th Streets
  • Constitution Avenue NW between 3rd Street and Louisiana Avenue
  • Louisiana Avenue NW between Constitution Avenue and D Street
  • D Street between Louisiana Avenue NW and 1st Street SE
  • 1st Street NE between C Street and Columbus Circle
  • 3rd Street between E Street SW and Constitution Avenue NW
  • 2nd Street SW between Independence Avenue and E Street
  • 200 block of E Street SW
  • Independence Avenue SW between 3rd and 7th Streets

The St. Patrick's Day Parade will close Constitution Avenue NW between 7th and 17th Streets to traffic and parking from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All streets that intersect the parade route will be closed as the parade passes.

Parking restrictions will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following locations:

  • Constitution Avenue NW between 6th and 15th Streets
  • C Street NW between 17th and 18th Streets
  • D Street NW between 17th and 18th Streets
  • Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th Streets
  • Virginia Avenue NW between Constitution Avenue and 18th Street
  • 7th Street NW between Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue

Motorists should expect traffic delays in these areas, and participants in the parade and race are encouraged to use public transportation.
