Local Lawmaker Upset at Release of Security Info

March 31, 2005 - 6:24am
WASHINGTON -- Could a recently released report put local monuments in danger?

Virginia Congressman Jim Moran, who sits on the committee that oversees the Department of the Interior, says information concerning the vulnerability of D.C. monuments should never have been made public.

"It's secret. And there is a reason that it is because we don't want to expose any vulnerabilities to potential terrorist attacks."

Moran tells WTOP he wants to know if the person who made it public did so to make a case against U.S. Park Police Chief Teresa Chambers.

"I can understand that there must be some people that have a calculated agenda either to support or to harm Chief Chambers, but this is serious stuff."

Moran wants to know who had access to the report.

The Department of the Interior is in charge of protecting the monuments.
