Teddy Gelman became WTOP’s morning drive editor in 2020 after serving as weekend morning editor and as an assistant editor.
He joined WTOP in 2018 after graduating from the University of Delaware, where he served as Sports Director for the student radio station, WVUD, and as a Managing Editor for the student-run newspaper, The Review. In those roles, Teddy oversaw print and digital coverage of Delaware athletics, as well as leading WVUD in its weekly live sports broadcasts. He also produced weekly podcasts highlighting the latest in campus news and Blue Hens football, but he’s most proud of the work he and a friend did with The Review, when they charted a years-long pattern of abuse in the Delaware volleyball program. The story, “‘Psychological warfare’: Over 14-year career, fired volleyball coaches ‘operated on a platform of fear’”, received numerous awards and was recognized on social media by several nationally-renowned sports journalists.
Teddy spent three summers working with the Washington Nationals pre- and post-game television show, Nats Xtra, assisting on-air hosts Johnny Holiday, Ray Knight and Dan Kolko. He also did work with WJBR-FM in Wilmington, Del., and the digital sports media company, Flotrack.
Teddy grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland and attended Quince Orchard High School. When he’s not at the editor’s desk, he finds time to tutor at his synagogue in Rockville, working with seventh graders as they prepare for their Bar and Bat-Mitzvahs. He also loves exploring the area’s running and biking trails and heading out to local sporting events.
