Ginger Whitaker

Video Content Specialist

Ginger Whitaker is a California native who has landed in Washington, D.C. after years of moving and traveling with her Foreign Service family.

As an undergraduate at Trinity College in Connecticut, Ginger majored in International Studies, and she earned her master’s in Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. After graduating in 2008, she produced a morning television newscast for more than two years at the Syracuse NBC affiliate.

In 2011, Ginger decided to pursue her interest in digital media, and became a web editor at Time Warner Cable News in Syracuse. There, she had the opportunity to write about everything from lake-effect snow events to the Great New York State Fair.  She then made the move to Hampton Roads, Virginia, and worked as a Digital Content Producer for WAVY News.

Making the transition from television to radio news, Ginger came to WTOP in 2014. She worked as the overnight Digital Editor for about a year before stepping into the role of Social Media and Digital Engagement Specialist. She is now a member of WTOP’s new video content department, in the role of Video Content Specialist.

Ginger has a passion for travel, rooted in her upbringing, which brought her from South Korea to Mozambique, Switzerland to Mali, and beyond. When she is not at WTOP, she can be found over the stove trying new recipes or cuddled up with her two cats.
