Briana A. Thomas is a Washington, D.C.-based journalist, historian, and tour guide with a passion for sharing undertold stories. With more than a decade of journalism experience, she specializes in cultural storytelling, long-form research pieces and travel writing that brings hidden gems and history to life. Her work often explores the rich narratives of minority communities, spotlighting the art, music and historic landmarks that shape our cultural landscape.  

As the author of Black history book Black Broadway in Washington, D.C. and a contributing author to international travel guide The Americas: Where to Go When, Briana enjoys blending historical insight with compelling storytelling. She is the Arts and Culture Writer for Washingtonian Magazine, a Smithsonian Magazine contributor, and co-hosts a weekly Things to Do segment on WTOP. Her writing and media span everything from local art exhibits to small-town museums, music festivals, and historic sites—all told with an excitement that reflects her passion to encourage people to explore more.  

Briana is the founder of Black Broadway Travel, a walking tour company that educates visitors about the vibrant history of DC’s history and culture. Her tour company has been featured on major networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS. She earned a Master of Journalism from the University of Maryland-College Park and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from Greensboro College. When Briana isn’t writing or checking out the latest Thing to Do around town, she serves as the assistant pastor at Light Church in DC.
