When a Northern Virginia boy had a serious accident in 2017 involving a knife, more than 80 blood donors helped save his life. Now, some of those local donors got that rare opportunity to find out how their donations were used. See photos.
Inova Blood Donor Services and the American Red Cross said they need donations from a more diverse donor pool. “We are actively recruiting minority blood donors,” said an American Red Cross spokeswoman.
More than 800 donors are already signed up, but even if you don’t have an appointment you can still donate.
Those who donate blood over the next couple of days at specific Northern Virginia sites will be eligible to win a pair of tickets to either Saturday’s or Monday’s games at Capital One Arena in D.C.
The largest distributor of donated blood in the D.C. area says they’re facing “a critical shortage of every blood type.”
