WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a suspect who police say sexually assaulted and possibly raped a woman near a Gaithersburg, Maryland, bus stop Friday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m., a woman told Montgomery County police she was waiting for a bus at the stop located on Watkins Mill Road at Travis Lane when a man approached her. He pulled her toward a wooded area next to the bus stop and sexually assaulted her, according to police.
The suspect left the area. Montgomery County officers, Gaithersburg police officers and K-9 units responded to the scene, but were unable to locate him.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect is described as black man in his 20s. He wore a dark-colored, checkered shirt or jacket at the time of the assault.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to call 240-773-5050. Crime Solvers will pay an up to $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment in the case.
