PHOTOS: Summer heat wave smacks DC area

Amid what’s been a relatively mild summer in the D.C. area, a sizzling heat wave smacked the region with heat indexes reaching 100 degrees or more this weekend.

Those who ended up outdoors despite the heat had to mitigate the temperature’s effects by hydrating, hiding under umbrellas and visiting cooling centers.
