Take a look back at the pets of 2020.

Meet Ella! This sweet, 9-year-old senior is looking for a family where she can be the focus of all your attention and love. Besides attention and pets from her favorite people, there is nothing Ella enjoys more than a comfy bed and meal time. Ella was found as a stray in DC and brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance. Thanks to the medical team at HRA Ella is finally feeling better and ready to meet her match. Could that be you? To learn more visit

Meet Kingston! This 10 year old sweetheart will melt your heart. He’s always up for lounging around at home or being active outside. If you’ve up for an energetic, intelligent dog, Gonzo is the pup for you. He is 32-pounds of pure enthusiasm and with Gonzo you’ll never be bored. Because he’s such a smart dog, you can have a great time coming up with training that is interesting and challenging. Since he’s no couch potato, this 2-year-old pup will get you up and out, always seeking a game of fetch, a doggie play date or a fun jog. This dog was born to run. And don’t forget the sniffing games, he loves lots of those! Dogs like Gonzo require a bit more effort to meet their intellectual needs, but the return on that investment is the opportunity to develop a special relationship with a dog that can keep up with the most active, the most engaged and even the smartest of partners. Think Gonzo is the dog for you? To learn more and set up a virtual meet and greet visit

Meet Totten! This 3-year-old pup has been through a lot. He was brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance by an animal control officer after being found alone, underweight and with significant hair loss. Understandably, Totten has been taking it slow and is finally feeling better and ready to go home. Our behavior staff have been working to build Totten’s confidence and trust and he loves hanging out with them, especially when he gets all the attention and treats. Meet Betty! Betty is a 52 pound gal who enjoys cuddles on the couch, playing fetch and tug, and going for long walks whenever she can. Betty is very curious, smart, and eager to please. She’s doing well in foster care, but we’d love to help this sweet pup find a new home to call her own. Think Betty is the dog for you? To learn more and set up a virtual meet and greet visit

Meet Toby! This 12 year old senior pup is as sweet as can be. He’s an easy-going guy who is ready for a home where he can thrive in his golden years. Toby is almost completely blind, but he isn’t letting that slow him down. HRA’s behavior team has also been working on building Toby’s confidence and he’s making great progress. Toby may take time to settle into his new home but once he does he’ll be a happy pup cuddled up next to you.

Meet Jean Claude—all his friends call him JC! This three-year-old hunk has become a favorite of staff and volunteers, and he knows it. JC is sweet, affectionate, and learning to walk well on leash. We’d love for Jean Claude to find a family that will continue to work with him on his basic training and help to build his confidence. At nearly 75 pounds this big boy has an even bigger personality and is quick to greet everyone he meets with lots of energy and a happy tail. Think JC is the dog for you? Are you looking for the most playful, loving puppy? Look no further than Polo! While small in size (for now), he has the biggest personality. He is an energetic, happy pup who can’t get enough playtime and loves everyone he meets. Although it’s not always play, play, play for Polo. He enjoys quiet cuddle time with his foster family and is happiest stretched out with his human housemates at the end of the day. Everyone adores Polo and we know you will too.
