Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry with a hint of nostalgia? How to celebrate National Ice Cream Day

Celebrating National Ice Cream Day at DC’s Blue Duck Tavern

National Ice Cream Day is this weekend, and it’s one of those events you can celebrate at your favorite ice cream parlor or you can also celebrate at home by making your own ice cream.

WTOP visited the Blue Duck Tavern on D.C.’s West End, where pastry chef Colleen Murphy and her team have been celebrating by having an ice cream social every day for the entire month of July with locally sourced flavors.

Murphy talked about what makes ice cream great, how to make it yourself, and some of the unique flavors that can make a great dessert — flavors you normally wouldn’t consider for ice cream.
