WASHINGTON — Some familiar names appeared on the list of nominees for the 2017 James Beard Foundation Awards, which acknowledges excellence in the food industry.
In a national category with four other restaurants, Aaron Silverman’s Pineapple and Pearls was nominated for Best New Restaurant. Amy Brandwein of Centrolina and Tom Cunanan of Bad Saint will go head-to-head in the “Best Chef mid-Atlantic” category, and Mark Furstenberg (Bread Furst) was nominated for Outstanding Baker.
Nora Pouillon (Restaurant Nora) is the recipient of the 2017 James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. In October, 2016, Poulillon announced plans to retire and sell her 38-year-old Dupont Circle restaurant, which was the first organic restaurant in the U.S.
Winners of the 2017 James Beard Foundation Awards will be announced Monday, May 1, 2017 at the annual awards gala in Chicago.
