3 killed in Charles County crash; lanes closed on Md. 234

WASHINGTON — Three people were killed in a crash on Maryland Route 234/Budds Creek Road in Charles County on Tuesday afternoon, state police said.

The three were pronounced dead at the scene; Maryland State Police said they have not been identified yet. Two others were taken to a hospital by medevac. State police said all five were traveling in a Lincoln SUV at the time of the crash.

The driver and passenger of a Ford dump truck involved in the crash were also taken to a hospital.

State police said around 3 p.m., the dump truck was traveling eastbound on Md. 234, approaching the intersection of Penns Hill Road, and the SUV was traveling southbound on that road. According to witnesses, the SUV did not stop at the posted stop sign, state police said.

Lanes are closed in the area as the crash investigation continues.
