Beer of the Week (‘Best-of’ Edition): St. Bernardus Christmas Ale

WASHINGTON — He’s jolly. She’s jolly. Wouldn’t you like to be jolly too?

WTOP’s Brennan Haselton is joined by Neighborhood Restaurant Group beer director and James Beard Award nominee Greg Engert to talk about St. Bernardus Christmas Ale for this “Best of” edition of WTOP’s Beer of the Week.

Quick Facts:

Brewery: St. Bernardus, Watou, Belgium
Description: It’s a dark ale featuring a spicy, mint-like flavor profile exuding the tastes of warming alcohol, fermented molasses, apricots, licorice and marzipan.
ABV: 10 percent
Greg’s pairing suggestions: Richer meats (duck and lamb) and things that love soy sauce, such as Chinese takeout (dumplings, pork fried rice)
