Reagan National’s new concourse is still set to open this summer. But there was a recent Covid spike among workers.

The two-part, $650 million modernization of Reagan National Airport is still expected to be completed this year, perhaps just in time for the majority of Americans to feel safe traveling through the air once again.

The new north concourse, which will replace the despised Gate 35X, remains on schedule to open in July, according to a report on Project Journey released this week by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The secure National Hall project is not expected to open until the third quarter of 2021.

Most Americans are expected to have been vaccinated from COVID-19 by then, according to President Joe Biden’s current plan.

MWAA expects the installation and testing of jet bridges at the new concourse to be finished by March. American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL), its dominant user, began fitting out its operational areas last month, and concessionaires started doing the same this month. The $391.55 million project remains on budget, per MWAA.
