Amazon donates STEM, literacy items to Arlington nonprofit

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) continues to make inroads with its second home.

The company announced Tuesday it is giving “hundreds of thousands of items” to nonprofits across the United States through its AmazonSmile Charity, including Arlington affordable housing provider AHC Inc.

Amazon donated “hundreds of educational items” that AHC Inc. had placed on its wish list. Neither Amazon nor AHC Inc. representatives would provide a dollar value of the donation, but it included several Google Chromebooks, headphones, a couple dozen graphing calculators, white board markers and erasers, and a plethora of games.

The affordable housing developer — with about 50 properties, most of which are in Northern Virginia — also operates educational programs and social services for its residents. Amazon’s gift will go to the five educational centers AHC Inc. operates in Arlington, said Jennifer Endo, vice president of community relations at AHC Inc.
