2017 NFL Week 5 Recap

Devastating injuries, dominant rookie performances, and the Cowboys new ownership all defined NFL Week 5.

Here is a recap.

CHICAGO, IL - OCTOBER 09: Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky #10 of the Chicago Bears is hit by Danielle Hunter #99 of the Minnesota Vikings in the third quarter at Soldier Field on October 9, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)

Bears 17 Case Keenum looks like the best QB in Minnesota and Mitchell Trubisky was outplayed by his punter in his NFL debut. This season is bananas. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images)
HOUSTON, TX - OCTOBER 08: Deshaun Watson #4 of the Houston Texans passes against Allen Bailey #97 of the Kansas City Chiefs at NRG Stadium on October 8, 2017 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images)
Chiefs 42
Texans 34 Kareem Hunt topped 100-rushing yards to stay on pace for a historic season and Deshaun Watson dazzled with a rookie-record 5 TD passes. With rookies like these, the NFL’s future is secure. Houston’s, however, is in question after losing both Whitney Mercilus and J.J. Watt to season-ending injuries. Watson looks terrific but asking a rookie QB to carry the Texans for the rest of the season is tough. (Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images)
ARLINGTON, TX - OCTOBER 08: Aaron Rodgers #12 of the Green Bay Packers reacts after throwing the game winning touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth quarter at AT&T Stadium on October 8, 2017 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Cowboys 31 Green Bay is now 7-1 in their last eight games against Dallas, and Aaron Rodgers once again worked some late-game magic to stay undefeated in three career games in Big D (he won the 2011 Super Bowl there and beat the Cowboys both Sunday and in last year’s divisional round playoff). Jerry Jones may cut the checks, but Rodgers owns the Cowboys. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)
LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 08: Justin Coleman #28 of the Seattle Seahawks breaks up a pass play intended for Cooper Kupp #18 of the Los Angeles Rams during the second half of a game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on October 8, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. Rams 10 Los Angeles proved me right: The Rams scored just three points on five red zone possessions and failed to make the statement they’re ready to overtake Seattle for the best in the NFC West. However, the Seahawks offense better get its act together or else L.A. will leapfrog them by default. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images)

Ravens 30
Raiders 17 I know Oakland misses Derek Carr … but Joe Flacco leaving this game with a clean jersey (he wasn’t sacked or intercepted for the first time this season) is an indictment of the Raider defense. This season is rapidly slipping away from the Silver and Black and scenes like this show they know it. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette (27) takes off past Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward (97) and nose tackle Javon Hargrave (79) on his way to a 90-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, in Pittsburgh. Jaguars 30
Steelers 9 Jacksonville is over .500 after five games for the first time since 2010 and Leonard Fournette — who went virtually untouched for a 90-yard touchdown, only the third ever against the Steeler defense — has scored in every game this season and looks like one of the best RBs in the league. I don’t even know what to do with this season. (AP Photo/Fred Vuich)

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 08: Odell Beckham #13 of the New York Giants is carted off the field after sustaining an injury during the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers during an NFL game at MetLife Stadium on October 8, 2017 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Chargers 27
Giants 22 It took playing another 0-4 team, getting two take-aways in the final four minutes, and a potential season-ending injury to Odell Beckham Jr. — but L.A. has finally broken their late game curse. Even with this win, the Chargers are 2-11 in games decided by seven points or less since the start of last season and the Giants are left wondering if they can get a win before midseason. Dolphins 16 Adam Gase should be less crazy over criticism of his underachieving quarterback and more nuts over the lack of production. Miami — already the NFL’s worst offense statistically — managed just 178 yards Sunday and now have a coach embroiled in a controversy I’ll just call NSFW. None of this will fly when they face the Falcons next week. (AP Photo/Wilfredo Lee)

Colts 26 (OT) It was a historic day in Indy: Peyton Manning was inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor, Adam Vinatieri made four field goals (including the game-winner) to move into second on the all-time list, Frank Gore passed Eric Dickerson to move into seventh place on the all-time rushing yardage list, and Mike Pence traveled through time. Lions 24 Cam Newton has back-to-back games with 300 passing yards for the first time since his first two NFL games. So basically, in the last week he’s been as disrespectful to opposing defenses, as he’s been to women. (Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)

Browns 14 Myles Garrett’s two-sack performance was the most by a No. 1 overall pick in their NFL Debut since individual sacks became an official stat in 1982 … but it wasn’t enough to make the Jets pay for some ballsy online trolling. (AP Photo/Ron Schwane)
CINCINNATI, OH - OCTOBER 8: Tre'Davious White #27 of the Buffalo Bills tackles A.J. Green #18 of the Cincinnati Bengals, preventing a touchdown, during the third quarter at Paul Brown Stadium on October 8, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by John Grieshop/Getty Images)
Bills 16
Bengals 20 Buffalo could muster only 36 yards and six points in the second half … meaning A.J. Green by himself outgained the entire Bills offense after halftime. Don’t let Buffalo’s 3-2 record camouflage the fact that offense is trash. (Photo by John Grieshop/Getty Images)

Patriots 19
Bucs 14 Nick Folk handed Bill Belichick his first career win in Tampa Bay and Tom Brady his 186th career victory (only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning have more) to undermine a pretty valiant effort by a depleted Bucs defense. This is the most disappointing missed opportunity since Sollozzo whiffed on Don Corleone. (AP Photo/Phelan Ebenhack)
