Freedom Forum finds a temporary home as it plans to leave the Newseum

The Freedom Forum Inc. has picked America’s Square to serve as its interim home as it prepares to move out of the Newseum a short distance away.

The nonprofit has signed a lease for 26,000 square feet at 300 New Jersey Ave. NW, part of the two-building trophy complex that also includes 51 Louisiana Ave. NW. The building is just north of the U.S. Capitol and about a half-mile from its current home at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, which it plans to sell to Johns Hopkins University for use as an educational facility.

The Freedom Forum recently disclosed plans to close the Newseum, a 470,000-square-foot museum devoted to the First Amendment, by the end of the year. It will continue to offer programming and hold events from its new location. It plans to transition out of its current space and into the temporary space, under a lease that extends through April 2022, in the first half of next year.
