PHOTOS: Washington Capitals’ 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs run

Last year’s Stanley Cup Champions the Washington Capitals will not get a chance to defend their title. Their run ended in a double overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7.

In the first round, they hosted the Carolina Hurricanes and came out on top 4-2 in Game 1. In Game 2, Brooks Orpik scored the game-wining goal in overtime to notch a 4-3 victory and a 2-0 series lead.

The series then shifted to Carolina, and so did the momentum. The Caps suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat in Game 3, and were again foiled in Game 4, losing to Carolina 2-1, and in the process, lost forward T.J. Oshie to an upper body injury that could keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time.

The Caps came back home with a vengeance in Game 5, shutting out the Canes 6-0, as fans chanted the injured Oshie’s name.

But the trend of neither team winning on the road continued in Game 6, as the Hurricanes fought to keep their season alive with a 5-2 win over the Capitals to send the series back to Washington for a decisive Game 7 at Capital One Arena, which ended in a crushing double overtime loss for the defending Stanley Cup champs.

See photos of their run.
