D.C. sign inspections will close lanes next week

WASHINGTON — Drivers in the District will have a few more obstacles to dodge next week: The District Department of Transportation will close lanes of some streets Sunday through Friday so crews can do structural safety inspections on billboards that are directly over some roadways.

The schedule:

Northbound I-295 between Firth Sterling Avenue SE and Suitland Parkway (Alternating right- and left-lane closures)

Northbound I-295 between Suitland Parkway and Howard Road SE (Alternating right- and left-lane closures)

Northbound Kenilworth Avenue NE at Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE (Left-lane closures)

Tuesday, Feb. 24

Eastbound I-695 between New Jersey Avenue SE and 7th Street SE (Alternating right- and left-lane closures)

DDOT adds that on any day when conditions prohibit these closures, it’ll do the inspections on northbound and southbound I-295, northbound and southbound I-395/I-695, from the south D.C. line to the north D.C. line. It will alternate single and multilane closures.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn motorists as they approach work areas.
