Red Line shutdown, significant work on 4 other lines this weekend

WASHINGTON — A Red Line shutdown in Montgomery County and significant slowdowns on four out of five other lines disrupt Metro trips this weekend.

On the Red Line, Medical Center and Bethesda stations are closed Saturday and Sunday for continued work to keep water out of the tunnels there. Shuttle buses will be available between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Friendship Heights, but riders who drive to stations should consider going to the Silver Spring/Glenmont side of the Red Line instead.

Metro plans Red Line trains every 10 minutes at stations that are open.

Single-tracking on the Orange, Silver, Blue and Yellow Lines reduces scheduled service to every 24 minutes on each line Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, Blue Line trains will not run between Eastern Market and Largo Town Center. Silver Line trains will run in that stretch though.

Also, Yellow Line trains will not run north of Mount Vernon Square.

The Green Line has no scheduled track work.

Among various events that will close roads this weekend, expect Wonder Woman filming to close Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown after 6 p.m. Sunday.

There could also be increased traffic around various fireworks displays across the region as Independence Day celebrations begin. Fireworks shows scheduled Saturday include Lake Fairfax, Sterling and the Workhouse Art Center.
