Worker rescued from partial trench collapse in Woodbridge

WASHINGTON — One worker was rescued from a collapsed trench in the Woodbridge area of Prince William County, Virginia, early Wednesday morning.

The Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of an injured worker in the bottom of a 10-foot construction trench at Route 1 and Mary’s Way at 12:12 a.m. on April 17, the department said in a news release.

While the trench had partially collapsed, the person was not buried.

Construction workers dug the victim from the collapse debris before first responders arrived on the scene.

When first responders did arrive, they made sure the trench was safe from additional collapse, removed the victim from the trench in minutes and transported them to a hospital, the volunteer fire department said in a news release.

Crews from the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, Dumfries Triangle Volunteer Fire Deparment and Prince William County fire and police departments also responded and helped in the rescue.

There is no word on the condition of the victim.
