Police: Man wanted in Va. carjacking, high-speed chase

WASHINGTON — Police said they’re looking for a man they claimed was involved in a carjacking and high-speed chase on Friday and Saturday.

Police said the carjacking occurred at around 9 p.m. Friday at the Walmart at 14000 Worth Ave. in Woodbridge, Virginia. A 51-year-old man told police the carjacker opened the driver’s door, pulled him out of the vehicle and drove off.

Police said the vehicle was spotted at 1:40 a.m. on Old Bridge Road but it sped away from police toward Interstate 95. Police pursued the vehicle into Fairfax County, but ended the chase for safety reasons.

The vehicle turned up in D.C., where police say the driver bailed on foot. A front-seat passenger who was not connected to the carjacking was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police named Jose Neftaly Canales Granados, 23, of no fixed address, as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of carjacking, felony eluding and driving on a revoked license.

Police have asked anyone with information to call 703-792-6500.
