Police seek man in attempted Va. abduction

WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a man they say tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl in Woodbridge.

The police say a man asked a 13-year-old girl for directions to a nearby convenience store around Bevanwood Drive and Elkwood Drive at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The girl says that after giving him directions, the man got out of his car and grabbed her by the shirt, ripping her sleeve in the process. She was able to escape and return home, where she told her family about the incident.

Police say there were no known witnesses to the event and no similar events have been reported recently. They searched the area and could not find the suspect or the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, nearly six feet tall, with shaggy hair and a long, white beard. He has a mole on his left cheek.

He was last seen wearing a green shirt, blue pants with paint stains and tan boots.

Police say the suspect was reported to be driving a light-blue two-door pickup truck with lumber in the back.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS. You can do so anonymously, and win up to a $1,000 reward for information.
