2017 NFL regular season wrap: Best and worst preseason predictions

Remember Rob Woodfork’s NFL Preview? He was horribly wrong about some teams but he also got quite a bit right. Point and laugh at all of the below.

NFC EAST  What happened: Eagles 13-3 Cowboys 9-7 Redskins 7-9 Giants 3-13 What I predicted:  Eagles 8-8 Cowboys 7-9 Giants 7-9 Redskins 7-9 Best call: “The Redskins will likely start slow on offense, intermittently struggle on defense, and play on the wrong side of .500 for most of the season.” Worst call: “(The Eagles are) more talented than last season, but it won’t necessarily show up in the won/loss column because of a tough schedule that includes games against the AFC West and a more competitive NFC East.” (AP Photo/Matt Rourke)
NFC North  What happened: Vikings 13-3 Lions 9-7 Packers 7-9 Bears 5-11 What I predicted:  Packers 11-5 Vikings 10-6 Lions 7-9 Bears 3-13 Best call: “(The Vikings) have playmakers at every level of the D, so if they stay healthy — and that includes coach Mike Zimmer’s eye issues — this team can challenge for a wild card spot, and maybe even a division title.” Worst call: “…the Packers should be right there with the Seahawks as the NFC’s best.” (AP Photo/Paul Sancya)
NFC South  What happened: Saints 11-5 Panthers 11-5 Falcons 10-6 Bucs 5-11 What I predicted:  Bucs 10-6 Falcons 10-6 Panthers 9-7 Saints 7-9 Best call: “Even with the benefit of roster continuity, the Falcons will lose a couple more games while figuring out life without (Kyle) Shanahan … but win just enough to return to the playoffs via tiebreaker.” Worst call: “Tampa Bay wants to be badass and I think they will be … this is the favorite to win the annually unpredictable NFC South.” (Scott Clause/The Daily Advertiser via AP)

NFC West What happened: Rams 11-5 Seahawks 9-7 Cardinals 8-8 49ers 6-10 What I predicted:  Seahawks 12-4 Cardinals 10-6 Rams 6-10 49ers 4-12 Best call: “L.A. should get out to a strong start and be surprisingly competitive.” Worst call: “I expect to see both sides of the ball rank in the Top 10 and for Arizona to return to the postseason.” (Photo by Steve Dykes/Getty Images)
AFC East  What happened: Patriots 13-3 Bills 9-7 Dolphins 6-10 Jets 5-11 What I predicted:  Patriots 15-1 Dolphins 7-9 Bills 6-10 Jets 1-15 Best call: “Unfortunately for Miami, the schedule is tougher and they largely stayed the same — which means a drop in the standings.” Worst call: “Armagedon has arrived, and the Jets are on the clock for the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.” (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)
AFC North  What happened: Steelers 13-3 Ravens 9-7 Bengals 7-9 Browns 0-16 What I predicted:  Steelers 12-4 Ravens 9-7 Bengals 7-9 Browns 4-12 Best call: “Pittsburgh remains the (black and) gold standard in the AFC North and the biggest threat to New England’s return to the Super Bowl.” Worst call: “(Cleveland) is still a losing team but it’s one headed in the right direction.” (AP Photo/Don Wright)
AFC South  What happened: Jaguars 10-6 Titans 9-7 Colts 4-12 Texans 4-12 What I predicted:  Titans 11-5 Texans 8-8 Jaguars 7-9 Colts 4-12 Best call: “The Colts will be bad this year—and so will the ensuing fallout for head coach Chuck Pagano.” Worst call: “I’m not buying into the hype coming from the Jaguars defense … this will be another losing season in Jacksonville.” (AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack, File)
AFC West What happened: Chiefs 10-6 Chargers 9-7 Raiders 6-10 Broncos 5-11 What I predicted:  Chiefs 10-6 Raiders 10-6 Chargers 9-7 Broncos 8-8 Best call: “I see the Chargers contending for a Wild Card berth.” Worst call: Didn’t really have one! I mean, other than trusting Oakland to break .500 … (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel, File)
