Former Montgomery Co. school worker accused of impregnating teen

WASHINGTON — A former custodian with Montgomery County Public Schools is facing sex charges, accused of impregnating a teenager.

Gary Stanback, 27, is charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met online.

Court documents show Stanback met the girl on Facebook in November of last year and “chatted for about two to three weeks before meeting face to face.”

About two weeks after their initial meeting, Stanback allegedly had sex with the girl in the back seat of his car.

“She felt pressured but acquiesced,” the documents say.

Months later, when the teen learned she was pregnant, Stanback told her mother that the girl had lied about her age, and he offered to pay for an abortion. He never gave them that money, and the girl and her mother eventually paid for the procedure.

Stanback resigned from his job with the Montgomery County school system in May, and the girl’s mother contacted the authorities.

“The allegations against Mr. Stanback are troubling, reprehensible and are contrary to the principles and values of MCPS,” the school system’s COO Andrew Zuckerman wrote in a letter to parents.

He urged parents to call police if “you or your child have any information that may be helpful to the investigation.”

Stanback last worked at Montgomery Village Middle School, Roberto Clemente Middle School and Paint Branch High School.
