WASHINGTON — A woman was shot and killed near a grocery store in Aspen Hill Friday afternoon, according to Montgomery County police.
Police are investigating the connection between two fatal shootings at Westfield Montgomery Mall and an Aspen Hill Giant, and the fatal shooting at a Prince George’s County high school Thursday.
Eulalio Tordil — 62, the suspect in Thursday’s high school shooting — has been taken into custody by Montgomery County police.
The shooting happened in the 13700 block of Connecticut Avenue near the Giant.
The woman’s name has not been released.
Police said it was possible that the shooter was still in the area and told reporters to take safety precautions, and to use their vehicles as a protective barrier.
Initially, all Montgomery County public schools and parks facilities were told to shelter in place. The shelter in place has since been lifted for all park facilities and almost all county schools.
Montgomery College’s Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses are on lockdown as well.
The National Institutes of Health said its leased facilities in the Bethesda/Rockville area are on lockdown, but the NIH main campus is not on lockdown. It’s on heightened alert with increased security presence.
