1 dies in crash involving disabled vehicle on I-270

WASHINGTON — Traffic was diverted on Interstate 270 for nearly four hours after a crash that killed one driver in northern Montgomery County early Thursday.

The Maryland State Police say they got a call at about 2:35 a.m. that a a disabled Toyota Yaris was in one of the travel lanes of I-270 northbound between Md. 121 and Md. 109; five minutes later, they got another call saying that it had been struck.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck died, the police say; the other driver, who was driving a Honda Civic, is in the hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was diverted onto Md. 121 at Exit 18. I-270 reopened at about 6:10 a.m.

The police haven’t released the name of either driver yet. They’re still investigating, and say that they don’t think alcohol was a factor.
