New evidence discovered in Harpers Ferry fire investigation

WASHINGTON — Investigators have discovered new evidence in the fire that destroyed part of historic Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, in July.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshall tells NBC Washington that money is missing from the restaurant where the fire started. City police have not commented on the missing money at this time.

After six weeks, investigators still haven’t determined the cause of the blaze.

It took about 80 firefighters — including some from Loudoun, Frederick and Washington counties — to knock down the fire.

Three buildings and a shed near the historic district were destroyed, and the city has asked for federal aid to help rebuild.
