Former President Jimmy Carter’s body is lying in state at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, after his remains arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Tuesday and he was transported to the Rotunda for a service, where he was eulogized by lawmakers including Vice President Kamala Harris.
Carter’s body will then be taken to the Washington National Cathedral for a public funeral Thursday, which President Joe Biden declared a National Day of Mourning. Federal agencies will be closed that day in honor of Carter’s legacy.
