Fairfax Co. students plant flags to honor Memorial Day

Students at George C. Marshall High School, in Fairfax County, Virginia, marked Memorial Day by planting 400 flags in front of their school.

As you walk among the flags, you can almost hear Marshall’s words from the end of World War II, more than 75 years ago: ”We are determined that before the sun sets on the terrible struggle, our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand, and of overwhelming force on the other.”

<p>Setting up the flags happens twice a year — Veterans Day and Memorial Day.</p>
