WASHINGTON — After an overnight search for a 16-year-old Alexandria boy who went missing in the Potomac River, Fairfax County police say his body has been located.
Police say they found the body of 16-year-old Vladimir Antonio Perez Flores, of the Alexandria area, Thursday afternoon. Flores’ body was discovered in the Little Hunting Creek — a tributary of the Potomac River.
The search for Flores began Wednesday evening after he disappeared in the Potomac River. The efforts to find him continued overnight; however, search teams said Thursday morning that they were not optimistic they would find the boy alive.
The Coast Guard suspended its search at about noon Thursday. The Fairfax County Police Department’s team continued its search.
Flores went missing while fishing with friends near Mount Vernon, Virginia. Crews searched overnight but were unable to find the teen, who was last seen at around 8 p.m.
Flores was fishing at Little Hunting Creek, where it meets the Potomac River. He attempted to swim to a narrow point in the water but didn’t make it. A couple nearby heard him crying for help and called 911.
Fairfax Fire and Rescue said the teen was last seen near the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Stratford Lane. Units from several agencies — emergency responders from D.C., U.S. Park Police, the Coast Guard, Fairfax County, Virginia, and Prince George’s County, Maryland — were assisting in the search.
