Police: Trump’s new DC hotel vandalized with ‘Black Lives Matter’ graffiti

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump’s new D.C. hotel was vandalized by graffiti on Saturday, according to D.C. police.

Officers found the phrases “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice No Peace” spray painted onto Trump International Hotel, which is located at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave.  Northwest — the former site of the Old Post Office building.

Police said the incident was reported at around 4 p.m. The graffiti was painted onto two granite columns bracketing the doorway to the luxury hotel’s 12th Street entrance.

No arrests have been made. Police said they are looking for a  a black male wearing a yellow shirt, blue hat and black jean pants.

In 2012, the Trump Organization won a 60-year lease from the federal government to transform the Old Post Office building into a luxury hotel. Trump International held a soft opening on Sept. 12.

On Sunday, plywood boards covered up the defacement. Onlookers said they didn’t condone the vandalism but said they weren’t surprised.

“Some of the things that Trump has said does incite anger and frustration in people,” said Marlene Thrower-Murphy, a Navy veteran from Pittsburgh.

Catherine Monaco, a D.C. resident, said it was bound to happen.

“It kind of makes sense. He name-calls everybody, so I feel like … people are going to name-call him,” Monaco said.
