Waldorf woman arrested, charged with killing her boyfriend

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after an argument with his girlfriend turned violent in Waldorf, Maryland, on Sunday morning.

Paramedics were called to a home on the 11700 block of Oak Manor Drive in Waldorf shortly after 11 a.m. for reports of a medical emergency.

When medics arrived they found Tavon Purnell Matthews, 37, of Waldorf, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Mathews was taken to a hospital where he later died.

During the investigation, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office discovered that Mathews and his girlfriend Tiffany Jade Smith, 31, were arguing shortly before the shooting.

Detectives said they believe Smith shot Mathews in the torso during that argument.

Smith was arrested and charged with first degree murder, first degree assault and use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence.
