WASHINGTON — The seventh-inning stretch might have to be moved up. Fans can only be expected to wait so long before getting up for fried chicken biscuits, grilled cheese with guacamole or Korean barbecue steak tacos.
Ballparks have long expanded their offerings from hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jacks, and the Nationals on Wednesday unveiled new concessions and menu items that will be available at the stadium this season.
Concessions already showcase the District (Ben’s Chili Bowl and local brews) and Maryland (crab, of course). This season, the ballpark will add some comfort foods connected with Virginia.
The Virginia Biscuit Company will sell homemade biscuit sandwiches with fried chicken and ham. Local beer, wine and peanuts will also be part of the menu.
Another new stand, Throwin’ Cheese, will serve up mac ‘n cheese and various takes on the grilled cheese sandwich.
On the Red Porch, new additions include Korean barbecue steak tacos and chicken-meatball bahn mi.
Enzo’s Pizza brings New York-style thin crust to the ballpark.
Throughout the concourses, a special 10th-anniversary brew from Sam Adams will commemorate the club’s arrival to Washington. The IPA will only be available for the 2015 season.
