LANDOVER, Md. — Thousands of Redskins fans gathered on the FedEx Field on Saturday to join celebrations over the team’s newest draft picks as they turn the page from a disappointing 2017 season and look ahead to 2018.
While the team’s newest players, like Da’Ron Payne and Derrius Guice, met with media and signed autographs, the fans had every opportunity to keep just as busy.
Many of them ran a 5K race that ended on the field.
“We’re big Redskins fans and we thought it’d be really cool to finish a race inside the stadium,” said Josh Mills of Stafford. Virginia. “Just wanted to show our support and get some exercise.”
Others simply descended from the stands to walk the field, many of them for the first time.
“This is awesome, this is what every fans wants,” said Cameron Younger of D.C. “[They want] to be out on the field, kick some field goals, see the locker room. This is what every fan dreams of.”
It didn’t hurt that the sun was out, with temperatures reaching into the 70s.
“The weather is perfect. I don’t think we can ask for anything better. I was really just expecting to walk around the stadium, sit in the seats and see some people,” Younger said.
Jeff Joynes of Largo, Maryland, had a group of eight with him, also taking advantage of the sunshine and the openness of the field.
He said he enjoyed “the nice, big crowd and stuff for the kids to do.”
“I look forward to doing it every year.” Joynes said.
