Pilot, passenger hurt in plane crash at Culpeper Airport

WASHINGTON — A small plane crash at Culpeper Regional Airport sent two people to the hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia State Police said pilot Daniel Allen Haug, 56, of Culpeper, and his passenger, John Reed Reavis  Jr., 74 of Bristow, were hurt in the crash.

State police were notified of the crash at around 1:40 p.m. The plane — a 1949 North American T6G, fixed-wing, single-engine, two seater aircraft  — was attempting to land at the airport when it ran off the side of the runway and overturned.

Police said Haug and Reavis were the only ones on the plane.

Reavis had to be flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Haug was taken to Culpeper Hospital. Police declined to provide further details about their conditions.

State police and the FAA are investigating the crash.
