1 dead, 1 injured after car traveling in wrong direction hits pickup on Beltway

WASHINGTON — A Maryland driver was killed and another driver injured when a car traveling in the wrong direction struck a pickup truck on the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County Monday night.

The head-on collision killed 36-year-old Nicholas O’Neil Clarke of Greenbelt, and sent 46-year-old Jason Allen Brown of Upper Marlboro to the hospital, Maryland State Police said.

According to their preliminary investigation, Clarke was traveling southbound on Interstate 495 in the northbound lanes in his Toyota Corolla, which struck Brown’s Ford F-150 head-on near Landover.

Clarke was pronounced dead at the scene while Brown was taken to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center for treatment.
