17-year-old faces charges for killing, burning of Md. man

WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old boy is being held without bond for the suspected carjacking and killing a man whose body police found burning near a Capitol Heights recreation center.

A woman flagged down a Prince George’s County police officer Monday after seeing a man’s body as she was throwing out the trash near the Brooks Road Recreation Center, located at 1101 Brooke Rd.

An autopsy found Rayshand Cotton, 27, was shot to death and then burned.

Investigators are charging 17-year-old Demiko Aiken as an adult after finding him driving Cotton’s SUV less than a mile from the crime scene. He faces first and second degree murder charges.

Police say they believe the two knew each other and Aiken carjacked Cotton before killing him. They say stealing the car was the motive in the crime.

A 16-year-old is also being charged as an accessory in the crime.
