WASHINGTON — A film-production company plans to stage a plane crash in Bowie, Maryland, this week, and fire department officials say it will produce a “thick column of black smoke.”
The Prince George’s County Fire Department says the production will also involve pyrotechnics that will be able to be seen and heard by the public. It is expected to be staged between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.
The staged plane crash will happen in the area of Freeway Airport. Fire officials say it is very likely that commuters on nearby U.S. 50 and other local roadways will be able to see the smoke and hear the pyrotechnics.
Fire and EMS crews will be on scene as a precaution.
County fire officials say they anticipate a higher volume of 911 calls in relation to the production. Those in the neighboring area are still advised to call 911 if they feel there is an emergency unrelated to the production.
